MPM Apprentice Spotlight: Will

29th July 2025

Meet Will, one of MPM’s young stars in our Production area, working mostly in the Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM) area on our factory floor.

Will first visited MPM early in 2025 while he was still in school, showing a keen interest and desire to work with MPM after school. He kept in touch with us. Since joining, Will has gained real-world experience, deep technical skills, and the confidence to contribute to live customer projects, all while being supported by experienced colleagues and mentors.

Since joining, Will has embraced the learning curve:

“MPM has been very good in informing me about their processes,” he says. Currently, he’s working towards his Level 4 Improvement Practitioner qualification.

His time at MPM has seen him grow both professionally and personally:

I’ve developed my organisational skills and teamwork – they’re essential for completing certain jobs.” He’s particularly proud of his involvement in projects on subsea leader Balmoral Comtec, a complex new product build from the ground up, where technical performance was key due to the product's harsh environment and tight tolerances.

Will believes the people make MPM:

“The team are always willing to lend a helping hand where necessary,” he says.

When asked what advice he’d give to future apprentices, he keeps it practical:

“Gain knowledge before you join so it isn’t all brand new to you.”

At MPM, 35% of our team have been with us 10 years or more, and we’re proud to have won recognition for our people development at this year’s Leeds Manufacturing Festival Awards by winning Employer of the Year and other awards. Read more about the story here. We’re also a Real Living Wage employer for another year running, ensuring careers here are both rewarding and fair.
