Continuous Improvement
One of MPM’s core values of continuous improvement is being lived through the investment in a state of the art 3D scanner to finetune quality across our R&D and pattern making services. The investment in the 3D scanner was supported by the ‘Made Smarter’ initiative which supports manufacturers to develop and improve their systems and processes through digital tools and innovation. The support and match funding on the investment from Made Smarter has enabled MPM to purchase the 3D scanner for the benefit of further improving their high levels of precision and overall quality of their products and service.
3D Scanner
The scanner works by projecting a series of light patterns onto an object while capturing images with a camera. The scanner measures any distortions in the projected patterns caused by the object's surface geometry and uses this information to create a 3D model of the object. The scanner emits light in the form of a grid or stripe pattern, which is projected onto the surface of the object from a fixed angle. As the light pattern moves across the surface, the camera captures images from different perspectives. The scanner then analyses the images to triangulate the position of each point on the surface of the object, which is used to create an incredibly accurate 3D representation.
