Investing in Electric: Expanding MPM’s Fleet Strategy

17th February 2026

MPM has recently invested in a new electric vehicle as part of a wider review of fleet operations across the business, including vehicles at our Durham site. Read more on our recent acquisition here.

The new EV, now supporting customer visits, supplier coordination and operational travel, represents a deliberate step toward modernising our fleet and reducing operational emissions where practical and commercially viable.

A Practical Investment in Lower-Emission Operations

Fleet performance plays a tangible role in manufacturing. From customer collaboration to site visits and logistics, vehicles are an active part of how we deliver projects.

By introducing electric vehicles into the fleet, MPM aims to:

  • Reduce direct transport-related emissions
  • Lower long-term fuel and maintenance costs
  • Improve efficiency for local and regional travel
  • Align operations with evolving environmental standards

Building on Our Solar Investment at the Leeds Site

Our fleet strategy builds on work already undertaken at our Leeds facility. Several years ago, we invested in on-site solar generation, which now provides a significant proportion of the site’s energy requirements. We are also looking at investment in solar energy at our Durham site in 2026.

Generating renewable electricity on-site has reduced grid dependency, improved long-term energy resilience, and strengthened cost predictability, particularly important in an energy-intensive manufacturing environment.

The move toward electric vehicles complements this strategy. As more operations become electrified, the ability to power elements of our business through on-site solar further improves overall efficiency and carbon performance.

Reviewing Fleet Strategy at Our Durham Site

Alongside the new vehicle, we are reviewing fleet requirements at our Durham facility to assess where further electrification is feasible. This includes evaluating:

  • Route profiles
  • Mileage patterns
  • Payload requirements
  • Charging infrastructure availability

As with all operational decisions at MPM, the focus remains on balancing environmental responsibility with practicality, reliability, and service continuity.

Supporting Responsible Manufacturing

GRP/composites manufacturing already supports durability and long service life across multiple sectors. Ensuring our own operations reflect similar long-term thinking is a natural progression.

Investing in electric vehicles, alongside renewable energy generation, forms part of a broader commitment to responsible growth. It strengthens internal efficiency while we continue to take the headache out of GRP/composites manufacturing for our customers, allowing them to focus on their core business.

As we move further into 2026, reviewing and modernising infrastructure, from production processes to energy use and fleet operations, remains central to building a resilient, forward-looking manufacturing business.
